To sell a marine service business, start with the operating details. New Orleans Business Brokers Base connects owners with an independent valuation partner.
Separate equipment value from company earnings
Prepare an asset schedule showing ownership, liens, condition and realistic maintenance needs. Book value is not necessarily resale value or the value of equipment in a working business.
Do not add equipment value to an earnings based price without checking what the comparable transactions already include. That can count the same earning assets twice.
Explain unfinished jobs
List open jobs with billing milestones, deposits, costs incurred and estimated cost to finish. A buyer needs to distinguish profitable work from obligations that consume future cash.
Resolve how receivables, deposits and work in progress move at closing. Put the chosen treatment into the purchase agreement rather than leaving it for the final week.
Protect operational continuity
Document key supervisors, specialized skills and customer approvals. Identify where a license, insurance requirement or access agreement needs professional review.
If you own the premises, evaluate the property separately. A buyer may want the operating business with a lease rather than the real estate as part of the same purchase.
